Located in the Bordeaux region exactly in the center of the Haut Médoc, this small vineyard runs along the Gironde between Margaux and Pauillac and takes its name from the commune of Saint-Julien-Beychevelle. Spread across an exceptional terroir consisting of Günz gravel that gently slopes down towards the estuary, it has no less than 11 classified growths, including 5 second growths, 2 third growths and 4 fourth growths (see our article 'Classified Growths of 1855'). Halfway between Margaux and Pauillac, Saint-Julien wines are known to combine the qualities of their neighbors. Thus, the most discerning tasters will notice the differences between the southern growths showing the finesse of Margaux and those in the north marked by the power of Pauillac. Generally speaking, Saint Julien wines possess a fine and complex bouquet (violet, blueberry, blackberry, brown tobacco, cocoa, ...), body, great richness and sap. These are definitely wines for long-term aging.
Area: 910 ha / Soil: gravel on clay-limestone soils and stony soils / Grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot / Aging potential: 10 to 20 years (much longer for certain growths and vintages)
