Château Ausone

Château Ausone is a Bordeaux wine estate that produces grand crus in the Saint Emilion appellation in the south of France. This estate is one of the 4 châteaux to be present in the classification as Premier Grand Cru Classé A along with Châteaux Angelus, Cheval Blanc and Pavie. The small 7-hectare vineyard is located on the slopes of Saint-Emilion. Built on the site of the villa of the Latin poet Ausonius, the estate benefits from a south-facing exposure, terraced vineyards and a balanced and very old grape variety composition. The cellar, carved into the rock, is extraordinary. It has undergone immense work to reinforce the solidity of the structure. As for the wines, known to take time to assert themselves, they are dense, intense and with an aromatic complexity that allows Ausone to rank among the very top estates of the Bordeaux region. The main grape varieties are Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with a majority of 55% Cabernet Franc.

We recommend the Château Ausone 1982, and 1983 which is excellent. The Château Ausone 1995, Ausone 1998 and Ausone 2008 are exceptional. Finally, we recommend the Château Ausone 2000, and the 2005 which are considered extraordinary vintages, grand crus that have even obtained a score of 100/100 from Robert Parker.
