DOMAINE MONTIRIUS Confidentiel 2015
- Domaine direct
The Rhône Valley vineyard is immense and extends over more than 200km between Vienne and Avignon. Stretching lengthwise between the Massif Central and the Alps, the major geographical and climatic differences produce very different wines. The greatest names share this vastness and express their unique styles: Guigal, Jaboulet, Jean Louis Chave, Chapoutier, Clape, Rayas…

The northern part, located in the north (from Condrieu to Valence), is very steep and the vineyards are terraced on hillsides. The appellations are Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Château-Grillet, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage, Cornas and Saint-Péray. Only Syrah is grown for red wines and Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier for white wines.
The southern part (in the south, surrounding Châteauneuf du Pape) is more hilly. The appellations are Vinsobres, Rasteau, Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Beaumes-de-Venise, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Lirac, Cairanne and Tavel. The grape varieties are very diverse. While Grenache is largely dominant, it is frequently blended with Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault and Carignan, but there are nearly twenty red grape varieties in total. For white wines, you'll find Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc, Marsanne and Roussanne.
