Appellation Grands Echezeaux
Grand-Échézeaux appellation
Since 1937, Grand-Échézeaux has been a controlled appellation of origin (PDO) which produces Burgundy grand cru. Between Vougeot and Vosne-Romanée, the Grand-Échézeaux appellation (only at a place called Grand-Échézeaux) extends the AOC Musigny to the south. Grand-Échézeaux is above all an exceptional Burgundy Grand Cru. But despite its name, the site is less than a third the size of its neighbor (Échézeaux) with the same name. Indeed, the vineyard covers more than 9 hectares, including 5 hectares belonging to the Domaine de la Romanée Conti. The other producers such as Joseph Drouhin, Gros Frère et Sœur or Robert Sirugue share the remaining plots of Grand-Échézeaux.
The wines of the Grand-Échézeaux appellation, made from Pinot Noir, have a dense texture on the palate, a tight grain and an additional touch of vinosity compared to the Échézeaux appellation wines. The wines have a significant aging potential: 10 to 15 years on average and up to 20 years in the greatest vintages.
