Grands Echezeaux appellation

The Grand-Échézeaux appellation

Since 1937, Grand-Échézeaux has been an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOP) producing Burgundy grand crus. Between Vougeot and Vosne-Romanée, the Grand-Échézeaux appellation (in the sole Grand-Échézeaux lieu-dit) extends the Musigny AOC southwards.

Grand-Échézeaux is above all an exceptional Burgundy grand cru. But despite its name, the site is less than a third of the size of its neighbour (Échézeaux) bearing the same name. Indeed, the vineyard extends over more than 9 hectares, of which 5 hectares belong to the Domaine de la Romanée Conti. Other producers such as Joseph Drouhin, Gros Frère et Sœur or Robert Sirugue share the remaining plots of Grand-Échézeaux. The wines of the Grand-Échézeaux appellation, made from Pinot Noir, have a dense texture on the palate, a tight grain and an extra touch of vinosity compared to Échézeaux appellation wines. The wines have significant ageing potential: 10 to 15 years on average and up to 20 years in the greatest vintages.
