1940 Wine

1940 Wine

The 1940 wines, a satisfactory vintage with good wines. A rather decent vintage for Bordeaux and Burgundy winemakers but much less qualitative in the Rhône region. In Bordeaux, the 1940 vintage is distinctly better than 1939, but the wines remain of uneven quality. The best wines of this vintage are Château Mouton Rothschild 1940, Château Cheval Blanc 1940 and La Mission Haut Brion 1940.

In Burgundy, the red wines are fine and light. Among the finest achievements of this vintage, Domaine de la Romanée Conti offers wines with a rich bouquet and beautiful finish. The Domaine de la Romanée Conti La Tâche 1940 and Richebourg are delicate and elegant. Finally, the red wines from the Chambolle Musigny appellation also offer great wines. The wines are generally of poor quality in the Rhône Valley. Difficult weather conditions destroyed the harvests.

The 1940 vintage is an excellent way to please the one you love

In addition to pleasing those born in 1940, opening a 1940 Bordeaux or Burgundy is an intellectually interesting approach. The 1940 wines were made during wartime with associated difficulties, particularly in obtaining corks and wine bottles. To help you choose your wine bottle, expert ratings (Robert Parker, Jancis Robinson, JM Quarin) are available when they have tasted the wine in the past. All our 1940 wine bottles are in stock and shipped same day for next day delivery.
