Echezeaux Appellation

The Échezeaux appellation

The Échezeaux appellation is a French AOC that produces Burgundy wines and Burgundy grand crus. This appellation, which was created in 1937, is located in the Côte de Nuits wine region of Burgundy. Founded by the monks of Cîteaux in the 12th century, the appellation is said to derive its name from "chezaux", meaning a group of dwellings.

The Échezeaux appellation covers nearly 35 hectares of vineyards and consists of 11 climats, with the most renowned being: Les Échézeaux du Dessus and Les Cruots, which are planted at over 300 metres altitude and whose terroir offers highly diverse soils: marly, stony and red silt. The wines of the Échezeaux appellation are medium-ageing: from 10 to 15 years, or even over 20 years of cellaring for the best vintages.

The famous Domaine de la Romanée Conti is among the wine producers under the Échezeaux appellation, along with domains such as: Anne Gros, Domaine Dujac, Domaine Noellat, Domaine Méo Camuzet...
