1918 Wine

1918 Wine

Our opinion on the 1918 vintage: a great year for Bordeaux wines. Despite the end of World War I in 1918, peace was only established at the end of the year, making this the last wartime vintage. In Bordeaux, the 1918 vintage is of good quality despite the shortage of labor due to the Armistice. The 1918 red Bordeaux wines are very robust, generous, vinous, and with a beautiful color. Note that in this year, Château Margaux created its Pavillon Rouge label for its second wine. Sauternes shone thanks to exceptional weather conditions, rivaling the 1906 vintage. Light, mellow, these are very pleasant sweet wines to taste.

In Burgundy, bad weather affected the quality of the 1918 vintage, while in Champagne, downy mildew and grape moths ruined the vintage.

However, in the Rhône Valley, the 1918 vintage was remarkably successful, with quality comparable to that of 1904.
