Picpoul de Pinet appellation

Between Pézenas and Sète, the Picpoul de Pinet appellation spans six communes, where the vineyards slope gently down towards the Étang de Thau lagoon. Recognised as an AOC in its own right in 2013, it is one of the few Languedoc appellations devoted exclusively to white wine, made from a single grape variety: Piquepoul Blanc, an ancient variety whose name is said to evoke the acidity that ‘pricks the lips’. Grown on limestone soils in a Mediterranean climate tempered by sea breezes, it produces fresh, pale wines with green highlights. Lively and elegant, Picpoul de Pinet offers aromas of citrus fruit and white flowers, with a saline, iodine-tinged finish. An ideal match for Bouzigues oysters and seafood, it is one of the Languedoc’s most emblematic white wines.
