Domaine Georges Roumier

Founded in 1924 by Georges Roumier, the G. Roumier estate is one of the most renowned estates in Burgundy. Although today the estate is run by his grandson Christophe Roumier, the labels retain Georges' first name as a legacy.

With the exception of the Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne, the estate focuses on the production of red wines (4 Burgundy Grand Crus and 4 Burgundy Premier Crus). Christophe Roumier's wines are appreciated for their masterful balance, combining finesse and power. Their true beauty is revealed after a few years of ageing in the bottle, which allows the aromas and flavours to fully develop.

The history of the Georges Roumier estate

The estate was created in 1924 by Georges Roumier following his marriage to Geneviève Quanquin, whose family owned vineyards. Georges held the reins until 1961, when his son Jean-Marie took over. It was Jean-Marie who notably acquired the Musigny Grand Cru in 1978, now the estate's flagship wine. Since 1981, Christophe Roumier has been at the helm of the family business.

How are the wines from G. Roumier estate vinified?

The vineyard cultivation is traditional and the use of fertilizers and herbicides is prohibited. The grapes are harvested and sorted by hand. Spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts is encouraged by pre-fermentation maceration. Fermentation takes place at relatively low temperatures (below 30°C), then aging is done in barrels, of which only one-third are new. The wines age for 12 to 15 months and are racked as late as possible, without filtration.
