In Bordeaux, 1981 is the vintage of elegance par excellence. Certainly, some wines could be criticized for lacking concentration, a consequence of torrential rain that interrupted the harvest, but a great number of wines surprise by offering texture, delicacy, and excellent longevity. Among the best wines of 1981, we recommend Château Lafite Rothschild 1981, Château Latour 1981, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 1981, Château Giscours 1981, Château Figeac 1981... The sweet wines of Sauternes are a bit disappointing, but the greatest Châteaux managed to cope with the bad weather to produce beautiful wines.

In Burgundy, autumn saved this vintage that was heading for disaster. Initially severe, the 1981 vintage, battered by frost and especially by the press, later received flattering comments. In Champagne, the vintage is excellent and unfortunately very rare. The Krug Collection 1981, Salon or Bollinger 1981 are legendary champagnes.
