In Bordeaux, 1981 is the vintage of elegance par excellence. While some wines could be criticized for lacking concentration, a consequence of torrential rain that interrupted the harvest, many wines surprise by offering texture, delicacy and excellent aging potential. Among the best wines of 1981, we recommend Château Lafite Rothschild 1981, Château Latour 1981, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 1981, Château Giscours 1981, Château Figeac 1981... The sweet wines of Sauternes are somewhat disappointing, but the greatest Châteaux managed to cope with the bad weather to produce beautiful wines.

In Burgundy, autumn saved this vintage which was heading for disaster. Harsh at first, the 1981 vintage, affected by frost and especially by the press, later received flattering comments. In Champagne, the vintage is excellent and unfortunately very rare. The Krug Collection 1981, Salon or Bollinger 1981, are legendary champagnes.
