Tips for storing and keeping a bottle of wine in the best conditions

Can I open my wine bottle upon receipt? After delivery, how should I store my bottle? What should I do if I don't have a cellar?

Can I open my wine bottle upon receipt?

During transport, the wine will inevitably have been in motion and the matter will have been left in suspension. Wine is a living product — after being shaken, it needs time to settle. Any sediment, even more present in an older wine, must have time to fall back to the bottom of the bottle, and the wine itself must rest.

After receiving your wine, we strongly advise you to let the bottle rest for a minimum of 48 hours before opening. The older the wine, the more time it will need. Tasting a vintage wine is, above all, a matter of patience.

Ideally, we recommend keeping the bottle undisturbed for 5 days, or more of course, before the day of opening. When placing your order, be sure to factor in this lead time.

After delivery, how should I store my bottle?

The storage conditions for a wine bottle prior to opening are just as important as the time to be respected before tasting. The wine must rest in the best possible conditions, which is why the choice of location for storing the bottle must respect the following points:

Wine does not like sudden changes in temperature. Low temperatures tend to preserve the wine, whereas heat will tend to accelerate its evolution. Choose a cool place where the temperature is constant.

The aim is to allow the wine to settle, to let the matter relax. Make sure not to keep the wine near a thoroughfare or a frequently opened door.

If you choose to keep your bottle for an indefinite period, it is essential to strictly maintain a temperature below 18 degrees and a humidity level above 75%.

What should I do if I don't have a cellar?

Our packaging can be used temporarily as a mini cellar. It prevents thermal shocks, keeps the bottle in the dark, and protects it from any external disturbance.

It can be difficult to find a spot at home that meets all the criteria (cool and constant temperature, darkness, absence of vibrations, humidity level). Among all the parameters, a cool and stable temperature should always be the priority.

The temperature in your home is lowest closest to the floor. Find the coolest room — it is here, near the floor, that the bottle should be stored. A north-facing wall, away from a heat source, inside a cool cupboard…
