Our review of the 1908 vintage: a satisfactory year in Bordeaux and exceptional in Sauternes. The 1908 Bordeaux vintage was very uneven, with harsh wines, full-bodied tannins, lacking finesse and elegance, although some châteaux produced great wines. Today, the reds still show tannins and a beautiful color. That year, Château Margaux created its Pavillon Rouge label to designate its second wine. The Sauternes are still excellent, comparable to the 1906 vintage. In Burgundy, bad weather affected quality, while in Champagne, mildew and cochylis ruined the vintage. However, in the Rhône Valley, the 1908 vintage was a great success, with remarkable quality similar to that of 1904.
