Our opinion on the 1926 vintage: old wines and very great wines. In Bordeaux, the winter and spring were cold, fortunately, the summer was long and hot. Due to coulure, the half-harvest of 1926 produced very good wines, sometimes surpassing those of 1921 and 1929. In Bordeaux, the red wines are of very high quality, powerful and with a beautiful colour. The sweet wines of Sauternes are splendid and reveal their finesse and smoothness. In Burgundy, the harvest was small but of very good quality. The red wines are full-bodied and firm, with very long aging potential.

In the Rhône Valley, it was also a great success.

In Champagne, 1926 is a superb vintage, with almost all houses celebrating the year. In fact, a bottle of Veuve Clicquot from 1926 featured in the 1942 film Casablanca.

Our advice for buying a 1926 wine

In Bordeaux, we recommend Château Ausone 1926, Château Montrose 1926, Château Mouton Rothschild 1926 or Château Grand Puy Ducasse 1926. And among the most beautiful successes in Sauternes, we note the Château d'Yquem 1926.

In Burgundy, red wines are significantly superior to whites this year. Focus on the appellations Clos de Vougeot, Chambertin and Richebourg.
