1942 Wine

1942 Wine

The 1942 vintage, with great successes in Burgundy and Rhône. The Bordeaux region did not benefit from clement weather: a particularly wet and cold year. Bordeaux red wines remain decent but full-bodied and tannic. It's a superb vintage for sweet wines. They are powerful and very good. In Sauternes, preference should be given to Château d'Yquem 1942, Château Filhot 1942 and Château Rayne Vigneau 1942. In Burgundy, the 1942 vintage wines are fine and light. The Burgundy Premier Crus and Burgundy Grand Crus are of good quality. Despite some frost during winter and severe drought in the summer season, the Rhône Valley winemakers produced excellent wines. The red wines are fine and full of flavour.

A wine from the 1942 vintage is an excellent choice for a birthday wine to celebrate an event, an 80th birthday...
