The Clos de Vougeot appellation

Clos Vougeot is a French Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC), as well as a Burgundy Grand Cru. Located in the Côte de Nuits wine region of Burgundy, the vineyard covers nearly 50 hectares. The vines are planted in enclosed plots separated by small walls erected since the 5th century. These separations divide the vineyard into about a hundred plots shared by more than 80 domains. Among them are the greatest Burgundy wine producers such as Domaine Gros, Méo-Camuzet, Noellat, Mugneret, Leroy, and Domaine François Lamarche...

The wines of the Clos Vougeot appellation are robust and powerful. They have an intense red color with a floral bouquet and spring notes on the palate. Clos Vougeot wines can be aged for a long time, from 10 years up to 30 years for the best vintages. Clos Vougeot is known for both its vineyard and its château. In the middle of these 50 hectares of vineyard lies Château Clos Vougeot. Listed as a historical monument since 1949, this Renaissance building is now open to visitors for its wine museum.
