Vosne Romanée Appellation

The Vosne-Romanée Appellation

Since 1936, Vosne-Romanée has been an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC). The appellation produces only red wines from Pinot Noir grapes. Vosne-Romanée is primarily a village appellation, but also produces 24 Burgundy Premier Crus. Located in the Côte de Nuits wine region across the communes of Vosne-Romanée and Flagey-Échézeaux, the vineyard spans over 154 hectares, of which 57 hectares are dedicated solely to the cultivation of its Premier Crus. The appellation thus includes one of the largest vineyards in Burgundy. Vosne-Romanée wines have a beautiful ruby to garnet red color. On the palate, the wines are fruity: ripe fruits with spicy undertones and notes of strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. The mouthfeel is velvety and distinguished. These wines are generally very voluptuous. Vosne-Romanée appellation wines are medium-aging wines: 5 to 15 years of cellaring for a bottle.

The vintages 1934, 1943, 1959, 1962 and the vintage 1990 are excellent. The years 1954, 1961, as well as the vintages 1985, 1989, and 2009 are exceptional vintages. The appellation has also produced exceptional vintages such as 1949, 1952, 1971. Finally, the best vintages are 1928, the old wines from 1937 and 1945 and the vintage 1978.
