Indeed, it's not a surprise that 1963 does not resemble the exceptional vintage of 1961. It was a very complicated year for Bordeaux winemakers. In Burgundy, the 1963 vintage was saved by a sunny late season, resulting in late harvests in November. Burgundy wines were more successful in whites than in reds. In fact, the quality of the 1963 whites is quite good, however some lack acidity.

In the Rhône region, 1963 was also a difficult year. The weather conditions did not favour good grape maturation. Consequently, the 1963 vintage does not offer very great wines.

The 1963 vintage is not particularly successful for the Rhône or Bordeaux regions, which is why a Grand Cru from Burgundy would be more preferable.
