The Bonnes-Mares appellation is one of the most famous Grands Crus de Bourgogne, located between Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis, at the heart of the Côte de Nuits. This prestigious appellation produces exclusively red wines made from Pinot Noir, renowned for their concentration, aromatic depth and exceptional ageing potential. The wines of Bonnes-Mares reveal aromas of black fruits, violet, spices and undergrowth that gain in complexity over time. The diversity of terroirs gives this Grand Cru de Bourgogne a remarkable balance between power, structure and elegance. Iconic estates such as Georges Roumier, Drouhin-Laroze and Louis Jadot contribute to the international renown of this essential appellation for lovers of great Burgundy wines and collectors of old vintages.

Bonnes-Mares wines are renowned for their combination of power and elegance. They offer aromas of dark fruits, cherry, blackberry, violet, spices and sometimes undergrowth with age. On the palate, they display a solid tannic structure, beautiful depth and great length.
The Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru appellation is among the most prestigious references of the Côte de Nuits, at the heart of Burgundy. Straddling the communes of Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis, this Burgundy grand cru produces exclusively red wines from Pinot Noir. Renowned for their depth, structure and remarkable ageing potential, the wines of Bonnes-Mares hold a privileged place among the greatest red wines of Burgundy.
The Bonnes-Mares vineyard extends over just over 15 hectares. Its originality lies in the diversity of its soils, composed of both iron-rich clay and more calcareous zones. This geological duality explains the unique character of the appellation's wines, capable of combining the power generally associated with Morey-Saint-Denis and the emblematic finesse of Chambolle-Musigny. Facing east, the vineyard benefits from an ideal environment for growing Pinot Noir. The plots enjoy excellent drainage and a favourable exposure for slow, regular ripening of the grapes.
Like the whole of the Côte de Nuits, Bonnes-Mares benefits from a semi-continental climate marked by cold winters, relatively warm summers and a thermal amplitude favourable to the aromatic development of the grapes. The best years combine sufficient sunshine, moderate rainfall and harvests carried out in dry conditions.
This climatic influence allows the Pinot Noir to reach optimal ripeness while retaining a beautiful freshness, an essential element for the balance and longevity of Burgundy's grands crus.
The wines of Bonnes-Mares are often considered the most powerful of the grands crus of Chambolle-Musigny. In their youth, they display a firm tannic structure and considerable concentration. The bouquet generally reveals aromas of black cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant, violet and spices.
With ageing, the wine develops more complex notes of undergrowth, truffle, fine leather, liquorice and sometimes game. Despite their power, the Bonnes-Mares wines retain a remarkable elegance and great aromatic precision, which have built their reputation among lovers of great Burgundy wines.
Unlike the Bordeaux region, Burgundy has no dominant châteaux but rather prestigious wine estates. Among the most sought-after producers is Domaine Georges Roumier, whose Bonnes-Mares ranks among the most coveted wines of Burgundy. Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé also produces benchmark cuvées, recognised for their finesse and depth.
Domaine Drouhin-Laroze, Domaine Georges Roumier and Domaine Bertheau also contribute to the international renown of this Burgundy grand cru.
Several recent and older vintages stand out particularly within the appellation. The years 1990, 1999, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2015, 2016, and 2019 are generally considered among the most successful for their balance between concentration, freshness and ageing potential.
The 2000 vintage captivates with its precision and elegance, while 2015 and 2020 offer richer, more structured wines. The 2016 and 2019 vintages are particularly appreciated for their balance and their ability to evolve harmoniously over several decades.
