65% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah, 5% others. Meaty aromas with dark-fruit jam, tons of spice, leather, beef jerky, dried herbs, bacon – this is the full package, and showing such good early maturity; there's no need to age this, although it has the gutsiness to mature for years, I expect.

Deep ruby-red colour with violet reflections and a broad, bright rim. Delicate notes of candied violets, dark forest berries, a touch of lavender, a hint of dried herbs and lime zest. Firm and finely structured, with depth. Ripe cherries, exquisite fruit, ripe, supportive tannins, fresh and mineral. Has a wonderful finish; a perfect union of the various soils and grape varieties, with definite ageing potential.

This is brimming with dark cherry, blackberry and boysenberry compote flavors that spill forth, laced with generous licorice snap, tar, graphite and black tea notes. A nice tug of iron appears very late on the finish, as the fruit lingers on. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Best from 2024 through 2040. 1,500 cases made, 392 cases imported.

The Domaine de la Janasse was created in 1973 by Aimé Sabon. La Janasse is the name of the family farm located in Courthézon in the Vaucluse department. This estate is undoubtedly one of the notable references in the Rhône Valley.

Over 20 years, the estate has continually progressed and offers excellent country wines as well as beautiful Côtes du Rhône and Châteauneuf-du-Pape cuvées. The success of this estate is a family achievement as the entire Sabon family is involved. Domaine de la Janasse Vieilles Vignes 2008 is a cuvée produced from four plots located on different terroirs that complement each other in the blend (a "southern" terroir composed of rolled pebbles that brings richness and power; a terroir located in the same place as Chaupin for freshness and acidity; a terroir of red clay covered with rolled pebbles but very late-ripening as it is located in the north of the appellation, which brings structure and body; and finally a sandy-limestone hillside that gives finesse). The grapes showed extraordinary concentration with well-ripened skins which, as in the Chaupin terroir, fully benefited from the optimal conditions in September.
