Full of ripe Cabernet tannins, this is a structured wine that's chunky in character. It elegantly balances fruit and structure, resulting in a wine that's sure to be impressive.

Bay leaf and tobacco notes are backed by a core of damson plum, black cherry and redcurrant fruit. The bay leaf edge underlines the finish, with a hint of violet and a well-buried iron accent. An elegant expression of Saint-Julien.

A clean and fresh wine with blueberry, mineral and floral character. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a crisp finish. This is a very refined and beautiful Branaire.

Mid garnet. Correct, much broader, more intricate nose than most of the other (cheaper) wines in this tasting. Satisfying wine that is not heavy, is sweet but not overripe and is drinking very well.

Château Branaire Ducru
Château Branaire Ducru

Château Branaire Ducru is a fourth growth (1855 Official Bordeaux Wine Classification) from the Saint-Julien appellation in the Médoc. The vineyard covers nearly 60 hectares. Château Branaire-Ducru is now one of the jewels of Saint Julien. It is highly sought after for its very pure red fruit. Its typical composition, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, opens with vibrant aromas of raspberry and blackberry, before developing complexity on the palate with delicate nuances of mineral, pencil lead, smoke and spring flowers... The Château also produces a second wine: Duluc de Branaire Ducru.

The best vintages of Château Branaire Ducru are 1975, 1982 grand cru wines, 1989, the 1995 vintage and the 1996 vintage. The wines from 2000, 2001, 2003 vintage and 2005 are also exceptional. Finally, the grand crus from 2009, 2010 vintage and the 2015 vintage are great years.
