This sample very closed and a little dulled aromatically. Some gentle cherry and raspberry and a hint of minerality perhaps. The palate has a juicy concentration, a really slick sense of quite plush black fruit, quite creamy, dark-hued oak and a silkiness to the tannins. This is spicy and rich, perhaps just very slightly hot in the finish, but has lots of svelte charm and considerable structure.

Clos du Marquis
The Clos du Marquis brand was created at the end of the 19th century by Théophile Skawinski, administrator of Château Las Cases and great-great-grandfather of the current administrator, Jean-Hubert Delon. For a long time, Clos du Marquis was the second wine of Léoville Las Cases. Since approximately the 1989 vintage, it has become another wine from Las Cases, primarily sourced from the outer vineyards, in contrast to the grand Clos de Las Cases. Clos du Marquis is therefore the expression of a particular type of Saint-Julien terroir, surrounded by prestigious growths such as Pichon, Longueville, Comtesse de Lalande, Léoville Poyferre, Léoville Barton, Lagrange, and Talbot.
