Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
This wine boasts a huge, flowery, super rich nose that is almost the essence of minerals and ripe fruit. Extremely powerful, full-bodied, and unctuously textured, this staggeringly great white Hermitage should last for 30-50 + years. Last tasted 6/96.

Falstaff April - 2006
Falstaff
The Chapoutier family produces only around 500 cases per year of their white Hermitage, which is made from the Marsanne grape variety and not from Viognier, as is often mistakenly reported. Already shows the typical ripe colour. Complex on the nose, chamomile extract, raisins, very ripe fruit, baked apple. On the palate enormously powerful, with notes of quince, a very distinctive style that always seems somewhat rustic at first — one might think of a stocky farmer in a brocade waistcoat. After sufficient decanting, it reveals a completely different side: fine elderflower syrup, young pineapple, some dark malt, strawberry jam and liquorice over a very complex minerality.

94 Chapoutier L'Oree Is spun honey in colour. Butterscotch, butter, oak, floral and citrus aromas. Fat and flabby in texture. The wine needs more acidity to give it better lift. It's a good wine, but more freshness would make it much more refreshing and interesting. 90 Points

Wine Spectator
Great richness and concentration mark this ripe, deep white. The flavours run from vanilla to toast, melon and honey, with hints of anise, herbs and flowers. Harmonious and expressive, it's drinkable now, but will improve through 2000, at least

M. Chapoutier
M. Chapoutier

Founded in 1808 in Tain-l'Hermitage, the house of M. Chapoutier is today the leading owner of the Hermitage hill. Since 1990, Michel Chapoutier has cultivated the vines using biodynamic methods and bottles separately the great named sites of the hillside — Le Pavillon, L'Ermite, Le Méal — as single-parcel selections of syrah and marsanne. Since 1996, each label bears the name of the wine in Braille, as a tribute to Maurice Monier de la Sizeranne.

Among the house's great vintages, the 1989 vintage and the 1990 rank among the pinnacles of Hermitage, while the 2003, the 2009 and the 2021 vintage continue this pursuit of excellence across more recent years. These are wines of very long ageing potential, to be decanted and served with roasted meat or game.
