Jancis Robinson December - 2007
Jancis Robinson
Quite deep copper tinge. Much more introvert than the St Joseph Blanc on the nose but there is obviously a great deal buried in here. Some hazelnuts on the nose and then extraordinary richness on the palate. Brilliant concentration but with excellent acidity too. Just a tiny softness on the finish. I could imagine this wine having a long window of drinkability. Quite a lot of alcohol but drawn in well towards the end of the palate. Big and bold.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
More over the top and decadent than the Cuvee de l'Orée, the 2005 Ermitage le Meal Blanc has overflowing notes of celery seed, sautéed peaches, honeycomb and underlying minerality that literally come soaring from the glass. Full-bodied, thick, unctuous and hedonistic to the max, it lacks a touch of the precision found in the Cuvee de l'Orée, yet makes up for it in sheer hedonistic pleasure and exuberance. It has the concentration to continue drinking nicely for another two decades or more.

Superdense, with lots of bass showing now--anise, fennel seed, cardamom, glazed pear and fig--but there's still plenty of minerality behind it all, with a long, salted butter finish that just won't quit.

M. Chapoutier
M. Chapoutier

Founded in 1808 in Tain-l'Hermitage, the house of M. Chapoutier is today the leading owner of the Hermitage hill. Since 1990, Michel Chapoutier has cultivated the vines using biodynamic methods and bottles separately the great named sites of the hillside — Le Pavillon, L'Ermite, Le Méal — as single-parcel selections of syrah and marsanne. Since 1996, each label bears the name of the wine in Braille, as a tribute to Maurice Monier de la Sizeranne.

Among the house's great vintages, the 1989 vintage and the 1990 rank among the pinnacles of Hermitage, while the 2003, the 2009 and the 2021 vintage continue this pursuit of excellence across more recent years. These are wines of very long ageing potential, to be decanted and served with roasted meat or game.
