Tasting notes: The vintage has confirmed all its potential. Deeply colored wine with aromas of cedar, spices and tobacco. On the palate, the wine has excellent volume, abundant fruit and a beautiful tannic structure. Classic style and beautiful expression of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Grape variety/Blend: Cabernet Sauvignon (~75%), Merlot (~23%), Cabernet Franc (~2%), Petit Verdot (~2%) (variations may occur from one vintage to another)

Aging: The aging is done in new barrels, renewed each year.

Maturity: Ready to drink

Food and Wine Pairing: Château Latour wines pair perfectly with beef, game and poultry in general. We can also mention dishes such as truffle omelette, Pauillac milk-fed lamb or porcini mushroom ravioli. For cheese, maroilles will pair perfectly with this red wine.

Sweet and sour on the nose. Extremely fresh and pure with marked acidity. This wine cried out for food and went well with our beef carpaccio. In fact with its tannin and acidity, its structure is not unlike that of an Italian red – a superior Chianti perhaps.

This is a vintage I seldom see anymore, as most wines have faded. But Chateau Latour is still hanging in there. Medium-bodied, with a focus on its cassis, herb, green pepper, stone, smoke and tobacco character, there is bright red fruit and cigar notes in the finish, though it ends before I was ready. This wine focuses on freshness and charm, over power and length, which is perfect for the vintage. However, there is no reason to hold this any longer.

Château Latour
Château Latour

Château Latour is one of the most iconic estates of the Pauillac appellation and a founding reference in the history of Bordeaux viticulture. Its name appears as early as the 14th century, linked to the presence of a watchtower on the Gironde estuary, whose proximity still profoundly shapes the identity of the vineyard. As early as the 18th century, the wines of Château Latour were recognised for their consistency and their capacity for ageing, establishing themselves among the greatest wines of the Médoc.

Classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé in the official 1855 classification, Château Latour holds a central place at the very top of the Bordeaux hierarchy. The estate is built on a particularly homogeneous terroir of deep gravels, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, which lends the wines a powerful structure, remarkable depth and a great consistency of expression.

The signature of Château Latour is defined by a dense tannic architecture and an exacting construction, favouring precision and longevity over immediate seduction. The estate has withdrawn from en primeur sales: it keeps its bottles at the property and releases them only at maturity. This patience is evident in its legendary years — from the 1945 vintage to the wine of 1961, from 1982 to 1990 through to 2009 — all of which illustrate the estate's ability to express with consistency the excellence of the Pauillac terroir and the singularity of its style.
