Cellar Tracker August - 2022

Nonetheless, a friend was given a bottle as a present, and we tasted this after decanting for an hour or so. The fill was high (no signs of leakage) and the top 2/3rds of the cork were like new. At opening it was completely closed up as would be expected. This developed into a subtly aromatic wine. Concentrated and focused. Quince paste, white figs, thyme, eucalyptus, camphor, new leather. Long lasting finish with hints of pepper and spices. Totally fine stuff.

Dark red colour. Slight evolution. Good intensity in absolute terms and for the vintage. Very beautiful. Nose of medium intensity. Animal touch, on a background of spice, wood, which lacks fruit. On swirling, already close to a bouquet. Rounded structure, which takes on a creamy flavour in the mid-palate but more lean than 94 and 93. The interest lies in the final aromas where the fruit returns with spice and wood. Tastes very well at the moment.

Château Latour
Château Latour

Château Latour is one of the most iconic estates in the Pauillac appellation and a founding reference in Bordeaux wine history. Its name dates back to the 14th century, linked to the presence of a watchtower on the Gironde estuary, whose proximity continues to profoundly mark the identity of the vineyard. From the 18th century onwards, the wines of Château Latour have been recognised for their consistency and ageing ability, establishing themselves among the greatest wines of the Médoc.

Classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé in the official 1855 classification, Château Latour occupies a central position at the pinnacle of the Bordeaux hierarchy. The estate is built upon particularly homogeneous deep gravel terroir, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, which gives the wines a powerful structure, remarkable depth and great consistency of expression.

The signature of Château Latour is distinguished by a dense tannic architecture and demanding construction, favouring precision and longevity over immediate appeal. Iconic vintages such as Château Latour 1945, Château Latour 1961, Château Latour 1990, Château Latour 1996, Château Latour 2000 and Château Latour 2009 illustrate the estate's ability to consistently express the excellence of the Pauillac terroir and the singularity of its style.
