The wine enters the mouth with fluidity, before showing itself more massive in the middle. It finishes too tannic and too rustic. The year was abundant and rainy. This explains that. Nevertheless, there are more pleasant and better-made 79s.

Medium carmine garnet, violet reflections, still youthful colour, delicately earthy. On the nose fine dried fruit notes, plums (roasted). On the palate strict tannins, red berry fruit nuances, preserved cherries, firm core, but not much charm, the emphasis is on acidity. This time fine hints of plum roaster, subtly sweet confit. On the palate firm tannins that appear somewhat hard and dry, red berry fruit, medium texture and length, vital acidity play.

Château Mouton Rothschild

Château Mouton Rothschild is one of the most iconic wine estates in the world. Located in the Pauillac appellation, it is the only growth in the official Bordeaux wine classification of 1855 to have been elevated to the rank of Premier Cru Classé in 1973, having initially been classified as a Deuxième Cru.

Acquired in 1853 by Nathaniel de Rothschild, the estate then known as Brane-Mouton became Château Mouton Rothschild and entered legend under the impetus of Baron Philippe de Rothschild. A visionary, he profoundly modernised the vineyard, developed the cellars and imposed an absolute commitment to quality, making Mouton one of the greatest wines of Bordeaux. His motto illustrates this unique ascent: « Premier je suis, second je fus, Mouton ne change ».

The singularity of Mouton Rothschild is also expressed through its artistic labels, illustrated each year by great contemporary artists, reinforcing its cultural and heritage aura. This pursuit of excellence can also be found in the other properties of the Rothschild family, notably Château Clerc Milon and Château d'Armailhac.

From the mythical 1945 and 1961 to the 1982 vintage and the 1996 wine, through to a more recent year such as the 2004 wine, the wines of Château Mouton Rothschild are among the most sought-after in the world of wine. The estate completes its grand vin with a second wine, Le Petit Mouton, created in 1993, and a rare white, Aile d'Argent.
