It was the artist Balthus, who created the label for Château Mouton Rothschild 1993. This drawing is a sketch of a teenager with an absent gaze and a fragile posture... The magic of an art that is both oblique and limpid , which leads to the distances of desire and dream.
Château Mouton Rothschild 1993 is marked by aromas of blackcurrant, leather, cold smoke and some notes of caramel. This Premier Cru Classé is made from 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc.

More medium than full-bodied, with a bright, crisp edge to the cassis, cranberry and cherry, there is still a regal touch and nice spicy character to the red fruits. Earth, leaf, tobacco, roasted coffee bean and herbs make their presence known from start to finish along with the sweet and tart piquant red fruits. This is at peak and should be consumed sooner than later.

The 1993 was a pleasant surprise. With plump red/black fruit on the palate, smoky oak and fine tannins, this has aged better than expected. At its peak now, you could still enjoy this for 3–4 years. This was actually the second wine I ever purchased en primeur, so I'm slightly biased!

Château Mouton Rothschild is one of the most iconic wine estates in the world. Located in the Pauillac appellation, it is the only growth in the official Bordeaux wine classification of 1855 to have been elevated to the rank of Premier Cru Classé in 1973, having initially been classified as a Deuxième Cru.

Acquired in 1853 by Nathaniel de Rothschild, the estate then known as Brane-Mouton became Château Mouton Rothschild and entered legend under the impetus of Baron Philippe de Rothschild. A visionary, he profoundly modernised the vineyard, developed the cellars and imposed an absolute commitment to quality, making Mouton one of the greatest wines of Bordeaux. His motto illustrates this unique ascent: « Premier je suis, second je fus, Mouton ne change ».

The singularity of Mouton Rothschild is also expressed through its artistic labels, illustrated each year by great contemporary artists, reinforcing its cultural and heritage aura. This pursuit of excellence can also be found in the other properties of the Rothschild family, notably Château Clerc Milon and Château d'Armailhac.

From the mythical 1945 and 1961 to the 1982 vintage and the 1996 wine, through to a more recent year such as the 2004 wine, the wines of Château Mouton Rothschild are among the most sought-after in the world of wine. The estate completes its grand vin with a second wine, Le Petit Mouton, created in 1993, and a rare white, Aile d'Argent.
