I was feeling last week that this wine has improved. We know we need to decant 4 or 5 hours before as you can see in the database. Even decanted 2 hours before it was superb. Complex nose of cassis and vanilla. Entry into caressing mouth, ample middle, juicy with taste, fine tannins. Tasty and fresh finish with a hint of ink. The beautiful cabernet sauvignon. Lot of fun. Drink now and before 2030.

Incredible nose of ultraripe fruit, it's yet subtle and complex. Full-bodied, with very ripe, almost sweet fruit and a long, long caressing finish. Superb. This is edging out the 1995.

This estate's staff believes that the 1996 Mouton-Rothschild is very complex. I agree that among the first-growths, this wine is showing surprising forwardness and complexity in its aromatics. It possesses an exuberant, flamboyant bouquet of roasted coffee, cassis, smoky oak, and soy sauce. The impressive 1996 Mouton-Rothschild offers impressive aromas of black currants, framboise, coffee, and new saddle leather. This full-bodied, ripe, rich, concentrated, superbly balanced wine is paradoxical in the sense that the aromatics suggest a far more evolved wine than the flavors reveal.

Mouton Rothschild

Purchased in 1853 by Nathaniel de Rothschild, Brane Mouton became a legend under the name of Mouton-Rothschild. With the advent of Baron Philippe de Rothschild Chateau Mouton Rothschild became the truly monumental 1er Cru it is today. In addition to the construction of cellars and buildings, and the ascension to 1er Cru status, it is the passion of a lifetime manifested in action by this remarkable man. Ranked Second Cru in 1855, it is now, since 1973, a premier cru classe. His motto became "First I am, second I was, Mouton does not change." The elegance and magic of this wine has charmed the most important contemporary artists who each year, illustrate their an original work of art on the label of Chateau Mouton Rothschild. Chateau D'Armailhac and Chateau Clerc Milon followed suit in the quality of the Rothschild family.
