The 2003 vintage marks the 150th anniversary of Mouton Rothschild in a family line of five generations. Baron Nathaniel is represented on the Mouton Rothschild 2003 label by a vintage photograph. The background refers to the act of purchase of the domain. A rare and unique document preciously preserved in the archives of the Château.
Château Mouton Rothschild 2003 has great finesse, typical of Cabernet with touches of blackcurrant, cedar and caramel. This Premier Cru Classé is made up of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. It is one of the Château's greatest successes in recent years.

The colour is slightly evolved. Fruity nose, smoky and creamy. Fat at the attack, perfumed in the middle, juicy, this wine does not lose its fat and ends long with lots of flavour and fine tannins without the dryness that the year is known for. Shocking.

Very ripe cassis flavors are under this wood, waiting likely for many years before the wood flavors subside. This is very much in the modern, polished style of Mouton today, made even more pronounced by the heat of the 2003 vintage.

 Bright ruby garnet, good color depth, violet reflections. On the nose very clear blackberry compote, very “Mouton”, very pure, without roasted aromas frills. On the palate supple, again very pure, harmonious and complex, with good minerality in the finish. A very straightforward young Mouton, still somewhat discreet and nobly restrained. On the palate substantial, structured, juicy primary fruit, a powerful wine, shows very good length, with potential, chocolate in the finish.

Château Mouton Rothschild

Château Mouton Rothschild is one of the most iconic wine estates in the world. Located in the Pauillac appellation, it is the only growth in the official Bordeaux wine classification of 1855 to have been elevated to the rank of Premier Cru Classé in 1973, having initially been classified as a Deuxième Cru.

Acquired in 1853 by Nathaniel de Rothschild, the estate then known as Brane-Mouton became Château Mouton Rothschild and entered legend under the impetus of Baron Philippe de Rothschild. A visionary, he profoundly modernised the vineyard, developed the cellars and imposed an absolute commitment to quality, making Mouton one of the greatest wines of Bordeaux. His motto illustrates this unique ascent: « Premier je suis, second je fus, Mouton ne change ».

The singularity of Mouton Rothschild is also expressed through its artistic labels, illustrated each year by great contemporary artists, reinforcing its cultural and heritage aura. This pursuit of excellence can also be found in the other properties of the Rothschild family, notably Château Clerc Milon and Château d'Armailhac.

From the mythical 1945 and 1961 to the 1982 vintage and the 1996 wine, through to a more recent year such as the 2004 wine, the wines of Château Mouton Rothschild are among the most sought-after in the world of wine. The estate completes its grand vin with a second wine, Le Petit Mouton, created in 1993, and a rare white, Aile d'Argent.
