Gilbert & Gaillard October - 2009

Deep garnet red. Woody, relatively discreet nose. Crisp palate with well-integrated tannins, very clear and precise expression. A good wine with a fine future.

Jean-Marc Quarin March - 2012

Dark, intense colour, even more evolved than that of Ducru Beaucaillou. Truffled, subtle nose with ripe fruit. Caressing entry on the palate. The wine develops very fruity, juicy with a good truffled taste that evokes the evolution of the best dry white wines. Rounded and long finish with flavour and fine tannins. It's good to drink now.

Wine Enthusiast January - 2010

A powerful, extracted wine, very concentrated. The tannins are dense, giving a sense of tight texture, while underneath the ripe fruits are pulsing with fresh acidity as well as sweet berry flavors.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Medium-bodied, close or at full maturity, the wine is soft, polished, round and charming. Instead of power, it offers a measured dose of ripe plums, liquorice and espresso. Drink this over the next 5 years or so before the fruit fades.

Jeannie Cho Lee March - 2013

Bright cassis and cedar flavours with good intensity and depth. This bottle is much better than the one tasted a year ago. The wine has opened up and shows its youthful vigour but also its multi-layered flavours. Fairly long.

Château Leoville Poyferre
Château Leoville Poyferre

Château Léoville Poyferré is a Bordeaux wine estate. Under the Saint Julien appellation, it is classified as a deuxième cru classé (Second Growth) in the official 1855 Médoc wine classification.

During the reign of Louis XIII, in 1638, Master Jean de Moytié, an ennobled Bordeaux bourgeois and counsellor to the Parliament of Bordeaux, owned a vineyard planted on a gravelly hill near the River. This led to the place being named "Mont-Moytié", following the custom of the time to name a place after its owner. The Mont-Moytié cru was part of these first historical crus of the Médoc, all born before the Fronde (1648-1653). The Médoc was then giving birth to its first parish crus.

This beautiful vineyard, originating from the former Léoville estate in the north of Saint-Julien, is one of the best terroirs of the appellation and certainly the richest of the second growths. The 80 hectares planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc produce a deep and rich wine.

Château Léoville Poyferré produces elegant, very fine, balanced and complex wines, with intense colour and velvety texture, which have a very good ageing potential.
