Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
No decanting needed here. Just, pop, pour, and enjoy all the ripe, round, lush, supple, black with red fruits and their opulent nature. There is no sensation of over ripeness, jam, or flabbiness. This is delivering pleasure in every sniff and sip. If you have a bottle, or two, or more, pop a cork and enjoy the ride. Drink from 2025-2035.

Adrian van Velsen - vvWine
Still vibrant ruby red. Open, profound nose, very complex, dark fruit, not warm but surprisingly cool in character, blackberry, plums, black cherries, plenty of cassis, the oak well integrated, spicy notes resonate. On the palate dense, opulent, the wine has body, shows great concentration, yet remains elegant. Long, dark fruity finish. Still on the “youthful side” - can be enjoyed now, has great reserves. Now until 2035+

Dark, intense and slightly evolved colour. Superb intense nose, with ripe fruit, accompanied by spices (cardamom). Smooth and complex evolution in the glass. Delicious on the attack, present and melting in the mid-palate, with a meticulous texture and a present and fragrant body, the wine glides in the mouth, long, flavoursome, noble in its taste and grain. Delicious.

Deep ruby-garnet colour, purple reflections, subtle edge brightening. Developed, accessible bouquet, ripe cherry fruit, a hint of plums, nuances of precious wood, a hint of black truffles. Full-bodied, powerful, round tannins, already very well developed, black berry confit on the finish, surprisingly accessible, roasted flavours on the finish.

Beautiful ripeness and elegant, juicy suggestion of sweetness. There's a bit of gamy character, and quite exotic Sandalwood spice. On the palate this is very sweet and full; a glorious mouthful of very sweet fruit and a refined, racy character to the tannins and acidity. Lovely, serious stuff.

Wine Enthusiast January - 2006
Wine Enthusiast
A huge, opulent wine that packs sweet, rich tannins and spicy fruit. In the midst of all this decadence, though, is a kernel of tannic dryness. This estate, long the weakest of the three Léoville wines, is now back in top form.

Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux
In 1855, the estate was still owned by Baron Jean-Marie de Poyferré, who married Jeanne de Las Cases and gave the estate its name. It would stay in their family until 1865. Captures the generosity and spice of 2003, and still going strong at 22 years old, against all odds at the time of this hot, dry harvest. Expect sandalwood, campfire smoke, cedar and black pepper alongside sweet black cherry flesh and supple tannic grip. 80% new oak, at a great moment to drink. When to drink: 2025 to 2035

Château Leoville Poyferre
Château Leoville Poyferre

Château Léoville Poyferré is a Bordeaux wine estate. Under the Saint Julien appellation, it is classified as a deuxième cru classé (Second Growth) in the official 1855 Médoc wine classification.

During the reign of Louis XIII, in 1638, Master Jean de Moytié, an ennobled Bordeaux bourgeois and counsellor to the Parliament of Bordeaux, owned a vineyard planted on a gravelly hill near the River. This led to the place being named "Mont-Moytié", following the custom of the time to name a place after its owner. The Mont-Moytié cru was part of these first historical crus of the Médoc, all born before the Fronde (1648-1653). The Médoc was then giving birth to its first parish crus.

This beautiful vineyard, originating from the former Léoville estate in the north of Saint-Julien, is one of the best terroirs of the appellation and certainly the richest of the second growths. The 80 hectares planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc produce a deep and rich wine.

Château Léoville Poyferré produces elegant, very fine, balanced and complex wines, with intense colour and velvety texture, which have a very good ageing potential.
