Jean-Marc Quarin April - 2023
Jean-Marc Quarin
Dark colour, showing slight development. A magnificent, complex, deep nose, the archetype of Médoc and Cabernet Sauvignon. It combines fresh blackcurrant and cedar with creamy nuances. Dense on the palate, with a finely woven tannic structure and a graceful progression, offering great complexity of flavour. The wine melts in the mouth and lingers for a long time. Beautiful. Ideal with food.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 1999 Latour doesn't quite dominate the competition as the 1994 does, but it too is a lovely wine, showing notes of blackcurrant, cigar wrapper, rich earth and creamy new oak. Medium- to full-bodied, deep and impressively concentrated, with velvety tannins, ripe acidity and a long, expansive finish, it is showing beautifully today.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Close to full maturity, this medium-bodied, forward Latour, ready to drink early, starts off well. But it leaves you wanting more: the finish is too short, with a touch of green leaf and cedar alongside the bright, tangy red fruit found on the nose and palate.

Tom Cannavan January - 2004

An almost impenetrable nose of dense, tobacco-scented fruit. A firm, uncompromising structure with fine balance. Perhaps lacking the depth and complexity to be a classic.

Medicinal and sinewy on the nose. Exciting and vibrant. Deep-flavoured. Long but the tannins are still very evident (though in this case there seems to be enough fruit to stand up to them). Ambitious - needs quite a bit of time yet.

Château Latour
Château Latour

Château Latour is one of the most iconic estates of the Pauillac appellation and a founding reference in the history of Bordeaux viticulture. Its name appears as early as the 14th century, linked to the presence of a watchtower on the Gironde estuary, whose proximity still profoundly shapes the identity of the vineyard. As early as the 18th century, the wines of Château Latour were recognised for their consistency and their capacity for ageing, establishing themselves among the greatest wines of the Médoc.

Classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé in the official 1855 classification, Château Latour holds a central place at the very top of the Bordeaux hierarchy. The estate is built on a particularly homogeneous terroir of deep gravels, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, which lends the wines a powerful structure, remarkable depth and a great consistency of expression.

The signature of Château Latour is defined by a dense tannic architecture and an exacting construction, favouring precision and longevity over immediate seduction. The estate has withdrawn from en primeur sales: it keeps its bottles at the property and releases them only at maturity. This patience is evident in its legendary years — from the 1945 vintage to the wine of 1961, from 1982 to 1990 through to 2009 — all of which illustrate the estate's ability to express with consistency the excellence of the Pauillac terroir and the singularity of its style.
