The 2009 vintage of Bordeaux is legendary, and the red wines of the 2009 vintage can be compared to the 2005 vintage. All appellations offer very great wines. The Médoc benefited from endless sunshine, as did Saint Emilion and Pomerol, which favored the harvest. The 2009 Sauternes are exceptional. Indeed, the rapid harvest at the end of September produced spectacular, rich, honeyed, spicy wines balanced by a fine acidity.
A very fine vintage also for Burgundy. The red wines are of good maturity and perfumed with aromas of very ripe fruit, with a beautiful structure.
The 2009 vintage in the Rhône Valley was fantastic, both north and south. The climatic conditions during the harvest were excellent, resulting in very great wines for long aging, especially in the Côte Rôtie and Hermitage appellations.
Finally on the Champagne side, the 2009 vintage is also a great success. The 2009 champagnes present rich and ripe orchard fruits, while maintaining a present acidity.
In Bordeaux, the 2009 red wines are sumptuous, bold and rich. The left bank was particularly successful. The whites are also superb, especially the sweet wines from Sauternes and Barsac.
In the Rhône Valley, the wines are opulent, rich, with a depth of color and velvety tannins. Châteauneuf-du-Pape particularly stood out.
In Champagne, on the whole, the wines are very good, and the best examples are likely to drink well now.
