Château La Gaffelière is a 22-hectare wine estate located in Saint-Émilion in the Gironde department. In the Saint-Émilion AOC, it is classified as a Premier grand cru classé B in the latest Saint-Émilion wine classifications of 2006. Count Léo de Malet-Roquefort is the current owner of the estate. Château la Gaffelière is situated on the site of a former medieval leper hospital, where people with leprosy, also known as "gaffets", were treated.
The vineyard's grape variety composition consists of 66% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Cabernet Franc. Château la Gaffelière is located between Château Pavie and Château Ausone. The estate also produces a second wine made from young vines (less than 15 years old) called 'Clos La Gaffelière'.
For tasting or gifting, we recommend the Château La Gaffelière 1982, La Gaffelière 1989, as well as the 1990 and 1995 vintages. La Gaffelière 2004 and 2009 are particularly successful. Finally, we recommend Château La Gaffelière 2010, the 2014 vintage, and the Château La Gaffelière 2018, which are excellent.

The Grand Vin Château La Gaffelière is generous, richly coloured, intense and silky, with aromas of small red fruits, blackcurrant and dried herbs. Its slightly woody taste comes from its ageing process: 100% in new oak barrels. Château La Gaffelière has great ageing potential and reaches its peak between 5 and 15 years of cellar ageing.
