expert's opinions

Yes, yes, and yes indeed! This is just great. Elegant, fresh, ripe, rich, soft, polished, refined, long, and deep, everything here is hitting the right notes from the nose to the palate and the finish. Still youthful, this is all about its future greatness.

Adrian van Velsen - vvWine
What a fragrance, immensely delicate, fine, floral, restrained, noble, red-fruited, deep, complex. On the palate slender, highly elegant, this is finesse pure, a fine tannic structure and a perfectly integrated acidity support the fruit, the wine seems to float above the tongue, excellent balance. If only one could stroke wine… Now until 2040.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Medium to deep garnet coloured, the 2009 Haut-Bailly hits the ground running with bold black fruit preserves, Morello cherries, baked blueberries and tilled earth scents with nuances of fried herbs, chargrilled meat and a ferrous waft plus a touch of menthol. Medium to full-bodied, the taut palate has a firm, grainy texture with a lively line lifting the core of muscular fruit, finishing long and earthy.

Jancis Robinson July - 2020
Jancis Robinson
Ripe and creamy on the nose with cassis notes prominent. Really quite flamboyant and seductive for Haut-Bailly. Palate complex and gourmand. Delicious fruit, plenty of stuffing but harmonious as well. Slight minerally edge. Tannins firmly present but finely honed. Lots of charm and drinkability as well.

Château Haut Bailly
Château Haut Bailly

Château Haut-Bailly is a Bordeaux wine estate that produces Graves Grand Cru Classé wines in the Pessac-Léognan AOC.

Haut Bailly is one of the few estates in Graves to produce only red wine.

In 1998, the Sanders family sold the vineyard to an American banker, Bob Wilmers, but Véronique Sanders continues to manage it. Gentle, almost discreet tannins, a delicate balance, "without anything too much" as Jean Sanders likes to say, define the incomparable Haut Bailly style. There is nothing ostentatious about this wine that embodies Bordeaux finesse.
