Château Haut Bailly

Château Haut Bailly

Château Haut-Bailly is a Bordeaux wine estate located on the left bank, south of Bordeaux. Château Haut Bailly produces classified growths of Graves in the Pessac-Léognan AOC, and is one of the few estates in the Graves region to produce only red wine. The vineyard is cultivated according to sustainable viticulture principles, spanning 30 hectares of vines that are nearly 35 years old, planted on gravelly and sandy soil. The vineyard is composed of 4 grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (34%), Cabernet Franc (3%) and Petit Verdot (3%).

The estate's second wine is called "La Parde Haut Bailly" and the third red wine, "le Pessac Léognan", is produced from the youngest vines of the estate. Finally, Château Haut Bailly also produces a rosé named "Rosé de Haut Bailly".

Among the finest vintages, we recommend the Château Haut Bailly 1983, 1988. We also recommend Château Haut Bailly 1989 and Haut Bailly 1990. For recent vintages, the 2001, 2005, 2006 and Château Haut Bailly 2009 are good options.

Gentle, almost discreet tannins, a delicate balance, "without anything in excess" as Jean Sanders likes to say, define the incomparable Haut Bailly style. There's nothing ostentatious about this wine that embodies Bordeaux finesse.
