While excellent, nearly outstanding, the 1990 Haut Bailly is not up to the quality level of recent vintages produced under the new ownership of American Robert Wilmers and his winemaker, Veronique Sanders. The complex 1990 offers up subtle yet persistent aromas of red currants, tobacco leaf, spice box, and smoke. This medium-bodied, fully mature wine exhibits sweetness as well as lushness, and is capable of lasting another decade.

Serious wine. Dark ruby color, with blackberry, earth and truffle character. Full-bodied and very polished, with fine tannins and a long, rich, fruity finish. I underrated this years ago.

Château informations
Haut Bailly
Chateau Haut-Bailly, Graves Rouge Pessac-Leognan. Chateau Haut-Bailly Pessac-Leognan Graves Rouge. Graves Cru red. Haut Bailly is one of the few major properties to produce only red. In 1998, the Sanders family sold the vineyard to an American banker, Bob Wilmers, but Veronique Sanders continues to manage. Tannins wise, almost discreet, a delicate balance, "without anything too" as he likes to say, Jean Sanders, define the incomparable style Haut Bailly. Nothing conspicuous in this wine that embodies the finesse of Bordeaux.
