CHÂTEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD 1984

Yaacov Agam, initiator of kinetic art, sublimates the Mouton Rothschild 1984 by creating a unique and original design for this label. His work only gives us an incomplete idea of his art, unless we consider that the reflection of the wine and the euphoria of the drinker can give this motionless rectangle devoid of color the movement it lacks.
Château Mouton Rothschild 1984 reveals a very fine and elegant nose, characterized by aromas of coffee, liquorice and red fruits. This Premier Cru Classé is made up of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc.

A small year in Bordeaux. The Merlot suffered from coulure and, in general, the wines are a bit bony and lack flesh. Here, the colour is good. The nose evokes dead leaves, a vegetal note therefore, then an animal note. It should be decanted to dispel a strong smell of reduction. On the palate, the body is medium, but the tannin is flavourful and still fruity, but the flesh is lacking. An honourable 84 in the context of the year.

Much better than anticipated, this is a nice Mouton, albeit light and quite green in character with its lean to herbs, forest leaf, cedar and mint. The red fruit is dosed in tobacco leaf in the finish. Probably better 10 years ago, OK, make that 20, if you have a bottle, there is no reason to wait as this is only going to fade with age.

Medium carmine garnet, medium depth, delicate lightening at the rim, watery edge. On the nose, delicately balsamic, hints of dried fruit, rather restrained, on the palate austere, the tannins not quite ripe, strict, medium length. A wine very much marked by Cabernet, which becomes somewhat softer and more charming in the glass. – Most recently fresh, red berry, delicate nuances of cassis. On the palate, slender but charming, fine texture, a delicate wine, surprisingly well preserved, with medium length.

Château Mouton Rothschild
Château Mouton Rothschild

Mouton Rothschild is undoubtedly one of the most famous wine estates in the world. In the Pauillac AOC, it has been a First Growth since 1973 in the official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification.

Purchased in 1853 by Nathaniel de Rothschild, Brane Mouton entered into legend under the name of Château Mouton-Rothschild. It was with the arrival of Baron Philippe de Rothschild that Mouton truly became the monumental 1st Growth that it is today. Mouton Rothschild 1945 and 1982 are among their finest vintages. Beyond the construction of cellars and buildings, and the accession to First Growth status, it is the passion of a lifetime found in action by this exceptional man.

Classified as Second Growth in 1855, Château Mouton Rothschild became First Growth in 1973. Its motto "First I cannot be, second I do not deign, Mouton I am" thus became "First I am, second I was, Mouton does not change".

The elegance and magic of this wine have thus charmed the greatest contemporary artists who, each year, illustrate Mouton's priceless wines by creating an original artwork on the label. Château D'Armailhac and Château Clerc Milon follow in the footsteps of this quality commitment from the Rothschild family.

The great vintages of Château Mouton Rothschild are: 1994, 1989, 1986, 1985, 1983, 1982, 1970, 1966, 1962, 1961, 1959, 1955, 1953, 1949, 1947, 1945
