CARRUADES DE LAFITE 2000

A good climatic year in many respects with a harvest under the sun. Indeed, the vegetation was early, the temperatures were above average with ordinary rainfall. Consequently, the 2000 vintage is an exceptional vintage.
The second wine of Château Lafite, the "Carruades de Lafitte" 2000 reveals a dark color. The nose has great aromatic intensity, black fruit and liquorice. The palate is supple, fleshy and fruity with tight tannins and a nice finish. This wine is made from 51.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1.5% Petit Verdot.

Wine Spectator March - 2003

Wonderfully ripe and decadent, with tobacco, meat and ripe berry aromas, with hints of currants. Full-bodied, and very velvety, with unctuous fruit flavours. Long and exotic aftertaste. Terrific wine.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
A brilliant second wine, the 2000 Carruades de Lafite (51.4% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42.3% Merlot, 4.9% Cabernet Franc, and 1.4% Petit Verdot), aged in 10-15% new French oak, shows wonderfully sweet lead pencil shavings intermixed with an elegant black cherry and cassis nose. A wine of tremendous purity, medium body, and the tell-tale Lafite elegance, this is a gorgeous wine

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Light, bright, fresh, perhaps a bit too fresh and the wine is showing more acid than fruit. For lovers of crisp, bright red berries, cassis and spice, who enjoy a very fresh style of wine, you might like this more than I did. If I owned this, I'd sell it, or drink it sooner than later.

Château Lafite Rothschild
Château Lafite Rothschild

Château Lafite Rothschild, 1st growth classified in 1855, is one of the most renowned Bordeaux châteaux. It shares the top of the official 1855 classification with the greatest estates. Located in the Pauillac appellation, the 103-hectare vineyard is divided into three plots: the slopes surrounding the château, the Carruades plateau to the west, and a 4.5-hectare plot in the neighbouring commune of Saint-Estèphe. The majority of the terroir consists of fine, deep gravel mixed with wind-blown sand on a tertiary limestone base. The grape varieties are 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. The average age of the vines for the grand vin is 40 years, with the 20 hectares of young vines (less than 10 years old) being used for the second wine. There are also extremely old plots of over 80 years, one called 'La Gravière' even dating back to 1886. The wine is aged for 18 to 20 months in 100% new oak barrels. Lafite Rothschild produces approximately 15,000 to 20,000 cases per year. The estate also produces a second wine, Carruades de Lafite, with around 25,000 to 30,000 cases. The name of Château Lafite Rothschild's second wine comes from the 'Carruades plateau', the location of a group of plots that was purchased by the château in the 19th century, adjacent to the château's hillock. 'Carruades de Lafite' was formerly called 'Moulin des Carruades', before taking on the name Carruades de Lafite.

The legendary vintages of Château Lafite Rothschild are 1921, 1945, 1959, 1982, 1986, 1988 and 2000, 2005 in recent years.
