Jean-Marc Quarin March - 1997
Jean-Marc Quarin
Dark red colour. Good intensity. Bright. Beautiful. Nose of medium intensity. Fine. Fruity. Floral. Delicately oaked. Fresh on swirling. Supple attack, developing on a round, rich structure, evolving on flavours of ripe cherry, towards a finish with elegant and aromatic tannicity, which still leaves a very blackcurrant wild taste on the finish. Good persistence.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
A very intense, expressive nose of blackberry, espresso and an animal quality. Good definition, almost Rhône-like. Smooth entry, full-bodied. Blackberry, coffee, huge tannins. Muscular, again almost Rhône-like. Very high extraction with a pain grillé finish. Needs another five years at least. Slight astringency on the finish.

Aromas of currant and cigar box. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a medium finish.

Jancis Robinson September - 2011
Jancis Robinson
Mainly from young vines and the north-facing plots across the main road from the Château. Dark ruby with some age. Aristocratic fragrance. Lovely build with real freshness and fruit concentration. Far too good for the prices charged then for Carruades! Really subtle and Lafite-like. Racy.

Château Lafite Rothschild
Château Lafite Rothschild

Château Lafite Rothschild is one of the oldest and most prestigious estates in the Pauillac appellation, on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, but it was in the 18th century that the château acquired international renown, particularly among European courts. In the 1855 classification, Château Lafite Rothschild was ranked Premier Grand Cru Classé, permanently establishing its status at the top of the Bordeaux hierarchy.

Owned by the Rothschild family since 1868, the estate rests on a terroir of fine, deep gravel, perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines of Château Lafite Rothschild are distinguished by their finesse, aromatic precision and balance, favouring elegance and length over demonstrative power.

Emblematic vintages such as Château Lafite Rothschild 1945, Château Lafite Rothschild 1982, Château Lafite Rothschild 1986, Château Lafite Rothschild 1990, Château Lafite Rothschild 1996, Château Lafite Rothschild 2000 or Château Lafite Rothschild 2005 illustrate the estate's stylistic consistency and its ability to express the identity of Pauillac with clarity. Château Lafite Rothschild remains an essential reference for understanding the classical excellence of great Bordeaux wines.
