Falstaff November - 2009
Falstaff
Medium ruby garnet with orange reflections and broader rim lightening. On the nose, delicately leafy undertones with subtle plum fruit, with air red berry nuances, orange zest. On the palate initially somewhat brittle, shows present tannins, medium texture, again oranges, dark fruit and herbal spice on the finish, bitter chocolate on the aftertaste, still has considerable potential, a characterful food companion.

Wine Spectator November - 1991
Wine Spectator
Deep colour, nicely mature bouquet, with ample plum, cherry and spice flavours. Not a blockbuster, but smooth and enjoyable now.

Château Lafite Rothschild
Château Lafite Rothschild

Château Lafite Rothschild is one of the oldest and most prestigious estates in the Pauillac appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, but it was in the 18th century that the château gained international renown, particularly among the European courts. In the 1855 classification, Château Lafite Rothschild was classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé, durably cementing its status at the summit of the Bordeaux hierarchy.

Owned by the Rothschild family since 1868, the estate rests on a terroir of fine, deep gravels, perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines of Château Lafite Rothschild are distinguished by their finesse, aromatic precision and balance, favouring elegance and length over demonstrative power.

Aged in new oak barrels, the wines favour fine tannin grain, freshness and length over power, and require time before opening up. The estate's great reference points range from the 1982 wine, which ushered in the modern era, to the 1989 vintage and the 1996 wine at the turn of the century, then to 2009 and the year 2010, two consecutive years at the pinnacle of the recent period. Carruades de Lafite, more influenced by Merlot and drawn mainly from the eponymous plateau, offers the most accessible expression.
