The poise and elegance of this wine are exemplary. Freshness shines through the interplay between tannins and acidity. A gentle backbone of fruits contrasts with the wine's structured potential.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 2017 Carruades de Lafite is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple coloured, it prances out of the glass with joyful notions of black cherries, redcurrant jelly and cassis plus hints of kirsch, cedar chest, pencil lead and a waft of raspberry leaves. Medium-bodied, the palate possesses bags of poise and freshness, dishing out lots of bright red and black fruits with a soft, finely grained frame, finishing long with a skip in its step.

Sweet cherries and cassis enhanced by brushed tannins and earthy nuances, this is soft, forward, fruity and drinkable upon release.

Ripe and direct, featuring cherry and currant notes lined with singed vanilla and mesquite accents, showing a tug of sweet tobacco at the very end. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

Jancis Robinson September - 2021

Deep ruby colour. Forest fruit and blueberries here, with some sweet pastries. Soft and a bit smudgy, there is lots of ripe, succulent and brambly fruit. Good intensity and ripe in tannin, this will drink well young but will hopefully gain clarity with a few years in bottle.

Château Lafite Rothschild
Château Lafite Rothschild

Château Lafite Rothschild is one of the oldest and most prestigious estates in the Pauillac appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, but it was in the 18th century that the château gained international renown, particularly among the European courts. In the 1855 classification, Château Lafite Rothschild was classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé, durably cementing its status at the summit of the Bordeaux hierarchy.

Owned by the Rothschild family since 1868, the estate rests on a terroir of fine, deep gravels, perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines of Château Lafite Rothschild are distinguished by their finesse, aromatic precision and balance, favouring elegance and length over demonstrative power.

Aged in new oak barrels, the wines favour fine tannin grain, freshness and length over power, and require time before opening up. The estate's great reference points range from the 1982 wine, which ushered in the modern era, to the 1989 vintage and the 1996 wine at the turn of the century, then to 2009 and the year 2010, two consecutive years at the pinnacle of the recent period. Carruades de Lafite, more influenced by Merlot and drawn mainly from the eponymous plateau, offers the most accessible expression.
