Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Palate coating richness, luscious black plums, cherries, dark chocolate, liquorice, espresso and hints of blue fruit get all over your mouth, palate, teeth and gums. The wine is pure velvet in texture with layers of opulent fruits and a finish that sticks. Decadent in character, this is only about potential today. But with more cellaring, if this is your thing, the wine is a beauty.

Very inky colour with a ruby core. Very intense aromas of roasted oak, coffee, dark berries, spice box and tobacco. The palate has an immense concentration, very rich and powerful with a huge length, layers of dark spicy fruit, immense but rounded tannins, mouth filling and impressive with an overwhelming structure. Should still deserve plenty of time in the cellar to calm down but it has doubtlessly a huge potential!

Much less fruit-centric than the 2009 on the nose, but the palate seems to have greater layers of intensity. Rich chocolate aromas with a touch of smoke and slate as well. Nuanced and balanced but with much more age needed to tease out the finer details.

Beautiful quality of fruit here, a wonderfully fragrant overlay to solidly plummy fruit with a depth of fruity cocoa notes, some toast and masses of forward personality. The palate is big and ripe, with a massive backbone of tannin over creamy black fruit. Lots of rich, ripe, glossy opulence here, but lovely balance despite the grandeur and the 15+ alcohol. Delicious stuff with marvellous layers of flavour and texture in a totally modern idiom.

These were exceptionally intense wines at the time, and here you get full on intense ripe fruits, blackcurrant pastille, balsamic, tobacco, cigar box, liquorice, black olive, all turned up to the max. 100% new oak, Michel Rolland consultant. Highest alcohol in the tasting, and as I have said before, it's hard to reconcile this with the balance most drinkers are looking for in Bordeaux.
