Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
It’s crazily backwards, concentrated and structured, and needs some bottle age to round into form. Nevertheless, the incredible quality is present in its purity, focus, full-bodied richness and awesome finish. Give it another 3-4 years and enjoy it over the following 15-20 years (if not more).

Wine Spectator February - 2014

Rock-solid and well-built, with a frame of charcoal and tar around a core of dark plum, blackberry and black currant fruit, revealing loads of tobacco, singed bay leaf and graphite notes in reserve. This should age beautifully, showing excellent range, character and definition. Best from 2017 through 2030.

Strong, beautiful shine, the nose is pure Syrah, wow, that's fun, dark berries, leather, also vanilla, herbs, pepper spice, excellent complexity, a sniffing wine, constantly changing. The palate is pure Syrah again, what precision, incredibly crunchy fruit, red and dark berries, white pepper, a lot of spice, concentration and power with a sensational balance at the same time, very good complexity. Medium length finish, very harmonious.

Captivating nose of wild rose bushes and toasted bread. In the mouth it is heady without being heavy with a very present acidity and a perfectly imperceptible alcohol. The tannins are integrated into the smooth texture. Great wine.

Jancis Robinson November - 2017

Meat and chocolate on the palate. Incredible intensity on the finish. Very bold and muscular, with a long life ahead of it – yet the tannins aren’t too harsh at this still-young age. There is clearly more to come in terms of flavour development.

Domaine Auguste Clape
Domaine Auguste Clape

The Domaine Auguste Clape is a reference in the Cornas appellation. Located in the southern part of the Rhone Valley, the red wines are 100% Syrah. The Cornas of Auguste Clape are famous for their straight, distinguished and sober character. Raised during 2 years in concrete vats then in ancient casks, they are wines carved for the guard. Since 1955, the Domaine Auguste Clape raises its wines to the highest level including adopting a reasoned work of the vine. Pierre-Marie Clape, son of Augustus, who has worked for the Tempier and Le Vieux Télégraphe estates, has been with the estate since 1988. In 2002, he was joined by his own son Olivier.

Only 2 vintages are produced: Cornas with vines from 40 to 90 years old and Renaissance with younger vines.

Area: 8.8 ha; Production: 30,000 bottles / year; Average age of the vines: 45 years; Red grape varieties: Syrah; White grape varieties: Roussanne, Marsanne
