Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
It's crazily backwards, concentrated and structured, and needs some bottle age to round into form. Nevertheless, the incredible quality is present in its purity, focus, full-bodied richness and awesome finish. Give it another 3-4 years and enjoy it over the following 15-20 years (if not more).

Wine Spectator February - 2014

Rock-solid and well-built, with a frame of charcoal and tar around a core of dark plum, blackberry and black currant fruit, revealing loads of tobacco, singed bay leaf and graphite notes in reserve. This should age beautifully, showing excellent range, character and definition. Best from 2017 through 2030.

Adrian van Velsen - vvWine
Strong, beautiful sheen, the nose pure Syrah, wow, this is fun, dark berries, leather, also vanilla, herbs, pepper spice, excellent complexity, a sniffing wine, constantly changing. The palate is pure Syrah again, what precision, incredibly crisp fruit, red and dark berries, white pepper, lots of spice, concentration and power with simultaneously sensational balance, very good complexity. Medium length finish, very harmonious.

Captivating nose of wild rose bushes and toasted bread. In the mouth it is heady without being heavy with a very present acidity and a perfectly imperceptible alcohol. The tannins are integrated into the smooth texture. Great wine.

Jancis Robinson November - 2017

Meat and chocolate on the palate. Incredible intensity on the finish. Very bold and muscular, with a long life ahead of it – yet the tannins aren't too harsh at this still-young age. There is clearly more to come in terms of flavour development.

Domaine Auguste Clape
Domaine Auguste Clape

The Auguste Clape estate is a reference in the Cornas appellation. Located in the southern part of the Rhône Valley, the red wines are 100% Syrah. Auguste Clape's Cornas wines are renowned for their straight, racy character and certain sobriety. Aged for 2 years in concrete tanks then in old foudres, these are wines built for aging. Since 1955, the Auguste Clape estate has been producing wines at the highest level, notably by adopting sustainable vineyard practices. Pierre-Marie Clape, Auguste's son who gained experience at Domaines Tempier and Le Vieux Télégraphe, has been working at the estate since 1988. He was joined in 2002 by his own son Olivier.

Only 2 cuvées are produced: Cornas with vines aged 40 to 90 years and Renaissance with younger vines.

Area: 8.8 ha; Production: 30,000 bottles/year; Average vine age: 45 years; Red grape varieties: Syrah; White grape varieties: Roussanne, Marsanne
