Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
This great terroir a few miles from Haut Brion and La Mission Haut Brion has produced one of the superstars of the vintage. A blend of 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, Pape Clement's 2005 has an opaque purple color and smoky barbecue and chocolaty notes intermixed with cassis and blackberries. There is also some underlying minerality in this full-bodied, super-concentrated wine, which has wonderfully sweet, well-integrated tannins. This majestic, multidimensional wine is one of the great, great wines of the vintage. It should drink well for at least another 25 years.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
What most people miss with Pape Clément, is that the wine is so concentrated, intense and a bit oaky in its youth, it needs cellaring time to really reveal its all. Still youthful here, another 5-7 years are needed before everything really starts coming together. Still, it is impossible not to see and enjoy the intensity, purity, depth of flavour, length and richness. The tannins are ripe, the texture is akin to velvet and the smoky, dark berries in the finish resonate for ages. Opened in the name of science, I'm waiting another 5 years before popping another bottle.

Dark in color, offering wonderful aromas of licorice, berry, fresh tobacco and currant, with Indian spices. Complex and full-bodied, with supersilky tannins that caress every inch of the palate. Long and satisfying. A joy to taste this young wine.

Dark, intense color. Intense and above all original nose, fresh, fruity, smoky and deep. Mellow on the attack, smooth on the development, particularly fruity in the mid-palate, tasty and rich, the wine finishes long, complex, with slightly strong wood nuances on the finish, but it is very long and spicy. Rich and very complete wine for the vintage.

Deep dark ruby garnet, almost black core, purple highlights, nose of fine candied berries, delicate notes of coffee, sweet black fruits, ripe nuances. Very solid on the palate, elegant and mineral, core of firm tannins, fine nougat in the aftertaste, very well integrated, leaves a very good impression, promising ageing potential, Vin de Garde.

Much more cassis and clear, plump, ripe berry fruit, with a touch of chocolate and more of that smoky, mineral and lightly spicy refinement. On the palate it is beautifully cool and composed, with searing acidity cutting through big, smooth tannins that give plenty of roughening grip. The structure is excellent, the fruit all there, and this shows huge promise.

Adrian van Velsen - vvWine
Profound, very fragrant, very Bordeaux, dark fruit, stone, ethereal notes, dried herbs, barrique aromas. On the palate with lots of pressure, concentrated, but not overloaded, fine tannins, well-integrated acidity. Very long finish. Perhaps a bit Tuscan, but good quality.

Jancis Robinson February - 2017

Lustrous blackish garnet. Some evolution at the rim. Light floral fragrance. Then opulent fruit on the front palate with the merest suggestion of brett. Lots of flattery and fun with the tannins well in retreat. Slightly hot and sudden on the end. Not top drawer but very satisfactory.

Château Pape Clement
Centuries ago, Pope Clement V, elected in 1305, was the owner of these lands. Château Pape Clément is one of the jewels in the wide range of vineyards owned by Bernard Magrez around the world. Based in Bordeaux, this great owner has made quality his battleground, his asset to face ever-increasing competition in the wine sector. Hence the care given to Château Pape Clément and to this terroir whose exceptional virtues have made Pessac's reputation for more than 7 centuries. At Pape Clément, pruning and leaf removal are of rare demanding standards, as is the hand-sorting of grapes. The winemaking and aging methods carried out at Pape Clément follow very strict rules. Everything is done at Château Pape Clément to allow nature to express its best without hindrance. With its Graves Grand Cru Classé 'Pape Clément' These are wines to cellar and forget, only to taste them two decades later as equals to the greatest.
