Jean-Marc Quarin September - 2011

Six bottles opened for a dinner, one of which was corked. Beautiful nose of undergrowth and truffle. Tender and caressing palate, slender, very flavourful and marked by a tannic finish of cabernet sauvignon type. I expected it to be more velvety.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
A brilliant dense purple color is accompanied by an extraordinary perfume of camphor, graphite, plums, cassis, and barbecue spices. A prodigious, multilayered, medium-bodied effort with exceptional concentration, a fabulous texture, and a 50-second finish, this brilliant achievement is one of the vintage's monumental wines. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2020+. P. S. Yields were a mere 28 hectoliters per hectare, which no doubt explains the wine's stunning concentration. One of the superstars of the vintage, Pape Clement's 2001 provides further evidence that this property, ambitiously managed with great dynamism by visionary Bernard Magrez, is pushing quality to the maximum and is obviously attempting to go head to head with its most famous rivals, Haut-Brion and La Mission-Haut-Brion (both located a few miles from Pape Clement).

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Smoke, licorice, coffee bean, cocoa and ripe black cherry notes pop, the moment the cork leaves the bottle. Silky, soft and lush on the palate, the only drawback is the oak on the rich, finish, which is a little drying.

Very dark, blackish. Inkybloody nose – lots of impact. Sweet, round palate entry. Very fresh but sweet too. Very long. Lovely balance. Zest. Not big but perfectly formed.

RVF Magazine The bottle appeared relatively evolved, even oxidized. We perceive a rich wine, but without real brilliance.

Aromas of fruit, tobacco, and meat lead to a full-bodied palate, with good fruit, silky tannins, and a delicate finish. This is a refined Pape.

Château Pape Clement

Château Pape Clément is one of the major historic estates of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux. Its history begins at the end of the 13th century, when Bertrand de Goth, future Pope Clement V, bequeathed his vineyard to the Archbishopric of Bordeaux. This direct link to the papacy confers upon the estate a unique patrimonial depth, making Château Pape Clément one of the oldest growths in Bordeaux still in operation.

Classified as Grand Cru Classé de Graves in the official 1953 classification (revised in 1959), Château Pape Clément has established itself as an essential reference among the great wines of Pessac-Léognan, both in red and white. The vineyard, located at the gates of Bordeaux, rests on deep gravel soils mixed with clay and sand, fostering a refined and complex expression of Bordeaux grape varieties.

The grape variety is predominantly based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for the reds, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, whilst the whites rely on Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. The wines of Château Pape Clément are distinguished by their aromatic intensity, their silky texture and their balance between power and elegance.

Renowned for their great ageing potential, the estate's wines traverse the decades with ease. Iconic vintages such as Pape Clément 2005, Pape Clément 2001, Pape Clément 1998, Pape Clément 2000, Pape Clément blanc 2012, Pape Clément 2010 or Pape Clément 2003 illustrate the qualitative consistency and the singular position of Château Pape Clément among the great collectible wines of Bordeaux.
