Very dark indeed. Very rich and sumptuous nose. The epitome of richness. In 2009 this seems more obviously rich than the Romanée-St-Vivant. Certainly on the nose. Then it lifts itself out of its wallow in ripe fruit to dance on the palate. The huge intensity of ripe fruit just fails to hide the massive charge of tannins here. Very refreshing on the finish. Not a heavyweight but very entrancing. More obvious sweetness here than on the Romanée-St-Vivant.

(4-2012) The 2009 Richebourg is a dramatic wine. In 2009 there is so much fruit that the tannins are barely perceptible. With time in the glass dark notes of tar, smoke, liquorice and violets develop, adding tonnes of complexity to the fruit. This is a huge, vertical wine that captures the essence of Richebourg in its towering fruit and structure. Layers of fruit saturate every corner of the palate as the wine builds to a deeply satisfying crescendo of head-spinning aromas and flavours.
