The Wine Palate: A blend of 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc, with 155 grams per litre of residual sugar, the 2009 Yquem has a pale to medium straw-gold colour. It waltzes out with gregarious notions of key lime pie, orange blossoms, and juicy white peaches, followed by suggestions of ginger ale, wet pebbles, and allspice. The big, concentrated, decadently rich palate is fantastically balanced, with a laser-precise line of freshness cutting through the tightly wound layers, finishing very long, with loads of citrusy sparks.

Bright medium golden yellow, silvery reflections. Fresh orange blossoms, a hint of bourbon vanilla, fresh apricot, a touch of grapefruit zest, floral, immensely multi-faceted fragrance. Juicy, elegant, creamy texture, ripe pineapple and yellow peach, finely integrated wood nuances, delicate caramel on the finish, has good freshness. Already drinkable.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
In comparison to the 2010 vintage, the 2009 d'Yquem is more concentrated with a stunning "rôti," the consequence of noble rot in French. Developing a powerful, complex bouquet with aromas of pineapple, apricot, saffron, flowers, spices and orchard fruits, it's dense and concentrated, full-bodied and layered with a crystalline texture complicated by notes of white truffles that reveal a racy, endless and a superb finish concluding with a pristine harmony. Readers with bottles in their cellars will have to be patient before opening this masterpiece with 155 grams of residual sugar.

Yellow colour, tinged with grey. Fabulous nose! Intense, fine, subtle, noble, complex. Splendid for the meticulousness of its texture, the wine melts, noble and complex on flavours of candied fruits, dense, but very airy. Marvellous roasted finish, noble and subtle at the same time. Bravo!

Barrel sample. The aromas are so rich and powerful, with great ripe apricots. There are honey, spice and beautiful sweet spiced pears. This is an extraordinary wine in an extraordinary year in Sauternes.

Young, rich, opulent, silky, fresh, vibrant, full, and deep, with enough blazing acidity to allow all the layers of vanilla and honey-coated orange and yellow tropical fruits to bathe your palate again and again with this stunning, sweet treat. OK, so this is still obviously young, and primary, but it is such a delicious experience now, that it was impossible to put my glass down. Patience might be a virtue. But there are times when patience is overrated.

Golden robe. Powerful nose, honeyed and floral, with flesh of pear in syrup. Simple and massive. Remarkable concentration, power and freshness. A very ripe vintage, with impressive length. Opinion based on potential.

Magazine RVF 554 The significant proportion of Sauvignon (20%) gives this 2009 great freshness, despite its 155 g of sugar per litre. In terms of richness, it is reminiscent of the very famous 2001!

Château d'Yquem
Château d'Yquem

Château d'Yquem is an absolute reference among great sweet wines and holds a unique place in the viticultural history of Bordeaux. Located at the heart of the Sauternes appellation, the estate benefits from an exceptional terroir and microclimate that favour the development of botrytis cinerea. In the official 1855 classification, Château d'Yquem achieved an unrivalled status by being designated Premier Cru Supérieur, a distinction unique among the grands crus classés.

The identity of Château d'Yquem rests on an extreme level of rigour at every stage of production: very low yields, successive harvest passes (tries) and strict selection of grapes. Long the property of the Lur Saluces family, the estate has belonged since 1997 to the LVMH group, which has chosen to preserve the château's technical independence and historic standards of excellence.

In great years, Château d'Yquem produces vintages that have become iconic, such as the 1908 wine through to the 1921 vintage, considered its pinnacle, by way of 1928 and 1929 which close out a prosperous decade, then the 1937 wine and the 1963 vintage, illustrating an exceptional ageing capacity that can extend over several decades, or even beyond.
