Jean-Marc Quarin October - 1999
Jean-Marc Quarin
Black colour. Intense. Nose of medium intensity. Fruity. Discreet when swirled. On the verge of maturity. To produce a wine like this, believe me, you need a great terroir! For how can you reconcile density of flavour and airy structure without a great terroir? Here the body is present, the flavour too, and the tannins airy and subtle as if not to emphasise the excesses of a very difficult year. Beautiful savoury persistence in a model of balance that I believe in and which has delighted my friends for 10 years! Superb. Beautiful length with fine aromas. Wait 2 to 4 years. Holds up very well with aeration.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Light to medium bodied, with pleasant spicy tobacco and sweet dark cherry/berry fruit notes, this delicate, low-acid wine can be drunk now and over the next 6-7 years.

Château Haut Bailly
Château Haut Bailly

Château Haut-Bailly is a Bordeaux wine estate that produces Graves Grand Cru Classé wines in the Pessac-Léognan AOC.

Haut Bailly is one of the few estates in Graves to produce only red wine.

In 1998, the Sanders family sold the vineyard to an American banker, Bob Wilmers, but Véronique Sanders continues to manage it. Gentle, almost discreet tannins, a delicate balance, "without anything too much" as Jean Sanders likes to say, define the incomparable Haut Bailly style. There is nothing ostentatious about this wine that embodies Bordeaux finesse.
