Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 2003 Cote Rotie la Landonne continues to blow me away every time I taste it and it's a desert island wine for me. One of the stars of this extreme vintage, it offers sensational levels of fruit and decadence, perfumed, intense aromatics, beautiful freshness and a to-die-for texture and finish. Still youthful, with masses of sweet tannin, it's nevertheless a heavenly drink today.

Dense and rich but also incredibly complex, long and elegant, this is a momumental Côte-Rôtie. It's darkly fruited and superripe, yet doesn't lose its essential sense of terroir, remaining marked by scents of pepper and espresso to go with the chocolate and cassis fruit. Velvety in texture, this is the one of Guigal's 2003 Côte-Rôties that demands a few years of cellaring.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
The wine is sublime. The smoky nose, with its wealth of crushed rocks, dark plums, licorice, spice and herbs grabs your initial focus. But once the wine hits your palate, you are riveted to the layers of rich, ripe, dense, opulently textured, dark cherries, plums, wet earth, thyme, spice and herbs. The wine coats your palate, but never feels heavy. There is no sensation of heat, dryness or corpulence. Decanted about 1 hour, the wine rocked!

Plush and smoky, with loads of flesh carrying black olive, fig, tobacco, currant and game notes. The broad, powerful finish shows a very roasted quality, with dark, smoky bacon and fig notes and an exotic hint of spice. This is a huge wine that only shows bits of what it will eventually offer.

Extraordinarily deep colour. Very intense, deep and leathery. Savoury, very Syrah. Very deep and rich start with very dry savoury finish. Good combination: the severity of Landonne and the ripeness of '03. All three single vineyard wines very consistent styles through the two vintages. Keep this for ages.

Domaine Guigal
Domaine Guigal

The Domaine E. Guigal stands as one of the absolute references of the Rhône Valley, both northern and southern. Founded in 1946 in Ampuis by Étienne Guigal, the family house built its reputation on a demanding interpretation of terroirs and a constant pursuit of excellence. Today led by Marcel and Philippe Guigal, the estate embodies a heritage vision of great wine, recognised on an international scale.

Historically based in Ampuis, Maison Guigal vinifies and matures in its cellars all the great northern Rhône appellations, including Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage. The same site also oversees the ageing of the iconic southern appellations such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas, ensuring perfect control of the ageing process and a consistent stylistic identity.

Closely associated with Côte-Rôtie, where it produces some of the most iconic cuvées of the Rhône, Domaine E. Guigal is distinguished by wines of remarkable depth and longevity. Dominant Syrah, a touch of Viognier on the Côte Blonde, patient ageing: the style combines depth and freshness and rewards patience. The estate's greatest vintages range from the 1988 wine to the 1999 vintage, taking in the Ex-Voto from 2003, through to the more recent 2016, 2017 wine and 2018.
